Houses in Clark County, measured before they are quoted

Furnaces, heat pumps, ductless heads and the crawlspace duct work that is usually the real reason a room does not behave.

What people ring about

Six calls, most weeks

  • No heatSame-day where we can. Bring the thermostat reading and the model number if you have them and we can often narrow it before arriving.
  • One room is always wrongMeasured at the register first. Duct length, a crushed flex run or a missing return will explain it far more often than system size.
  • The bill jumpedOn a heat pump, backup electric heat running when it should not. On a furnace, usually a filter or a schedule.
  • Water under the furnaceCondensate drains, traps and pans. Worth dealing with before a ceiling gets involved.
  • A new noiseBearings, a loaded blower wheel, or a panel that has come loose. New noises do not get quieter.
  • It is twenty years old — now what?We will tell you what it has left and what to budget, rather than quoting a replacement the same afternoon.
Ducts

Under the floor is where the heat goes

Most houses here deliver their heating through a crawlspace. Boots that have come adrift from the floor, flex crushed under a joist, insulation lying on the ground, a return that was never properly sized.

We measure airflow at the registers before and after, so the work has a number attached to it and you can see whether it did anything.

  • Sealing and repairsJoints, boots, collars and disconnected runs, done from inside the crawlspace rather than from the register.
  • Airflow measurementRoom by room, before and after, written down.
  • Return airThe half of the system nobody thinks about, and often the reason a bedroom will not warm up with the door shut.

Safety

Do not ring us first for these two

  • A carbon monoxide alarm soundingEverybody outside, then call 911 or the gas utility from outside the house. Do not go back in to open windows.
  • A smell of gasThe same. Leave the appliance alone and ring from outside.

We will come afterwards and find out what caused it. Everything else goes in the diary.

Replacement

Sized from the house, not from the old label

The commonest mistake in a replacement quote is copying the capacity of whatever is there now. If the original was oversized — and in this area a lot of them were — you inherit the same short-cycling and the same cold room.

Our quotes include what the ducts need. Leaving that out is how a new system ends up performing like the one you replaced.
